Robert Joe Halderman, David Letterman's Alleged EXTORTIONIST: Robert J. "Joe" Halderman, producer of "48 Hours Mystery", has been identified as the alleged extortionist in the David Letterman blackmail case. Mr Halderman has pleaded not guilty on one count of attempted first-degree grand larceny.

David Letterman had on Thursday, acknowledged that he had sexual relationships with a female employee and that a CBS employee tried to extort $2 million from him over the affairs. Robert Joe Halderman was later identified as the extortionist and Stephanie Birkitt identified as the female employee. Tom Keaney, spokesman for Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants, said that all the affairs took place before Letterman's marriage. Letterman married longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko in March. The couple began dating in 1986 and have a son, Harry, born in November 2003.
