of stay open longer

Appeal to childcare centres: Stay open longer
A handful of childcare centres are keeping their doors open longer and close later to serve working parents who need that extra bit of help with child minding...The extra service is a lifesaver, say some harried parents, whose evenings used to be a mad dash from work...

In the ideal working environment, work starts at 8.30am and ends at 5.30pm which meets MOM's 8 hour a day guideline. This leaves 1.5 hours before and after work to send and pick the kids up from the child care centre which opens from 7am to 7pm.

However, most of the time in my work environment, overtime is unavoidable. So 1.5 hours to the childcare centre could end up with just 0.5 hours. So that is when the mad dash from work begins.

Lucky for Lancerlady and I, our employees have adopted flexi-hours, the kids' child care centre are near and we've got a car to ferry us around. Imagine those that had to take long journey and switching between the train and bus.

However on the other hand, pity the teachers and the care providers in those childcare centres that open late. It means they had to start work early and end work late.

So it is a difficult win-win situation for both parents and care providers.

of tough days ahead

The next few weeks will be a critical period for one of my projects at work. Hopefully my team can deliver what our management had promised. If we don't then the management will have to request to delay the project deadline. That will give us more breathing space. But then that will mean more long and endless nights.

Having to hop among the various projects I am working in didn't help either. I forsee that there will be tough and rocky days ahead.

of cable car ride

So far, there are 2 occasions that I have sat in the cable car. The first was when my parents took me many many many years ago. The second one was taken today, when we brought the kids for their first cable car ride.

We parked at Mount Faber and took the 10 minute ride to Sentosa, passing the upcoming VivoCity and Harbourfront. We also got to see 2 stars, Star Gemini and Star Virgo. Star Virgo just arrived, letting off passengers, so that explained the long queue of taxis.

At Sentosa, we let the kids play sand. But when the sky started to get dark, we decided it was time to go.

Spending the whole morning at Sentosa, we were tired. We took a slow drive down Mount Faber and watched the so-called "tornado" in a distant, as reported in channelnewsasia.

of open your mouth and talk

Sometimes when Lancerkid wants us to take something, he would point at the object. If he points at one object then it is ok. But if he points to an area with lots of things, then we would have to take one object at a time and asked him if that was what he wanted.

So just now, when he started pointing to the table, I decided to 'force' him to say what he wanted.

Lancerlord: Open your mouth and say what you want.

Lancerkid looked at me and opened his mouth wide wide but no words came out of his mouth.

Lancerlord: No no. You must say what you want. Open your mouth, talk.

Again, Lancerkid opened his mouth wide wide. Silence. Mouth opened so wide, can count his teeth.

At least he listened. Slowly we will have to teach him to speak up.

A Face Is Exposed for AOL Searcher No. 4417749: AOL's blunder in releasing search records of AOL users. Although the records only contained a string of numbers for each user, it didn't take long for people to put a face to user number 4417749.
Buried in a list of 20 million Web search queries collected by AOL and recently released on the Internet is user No. 4417749. The number was assigned by the company to protect the searcher’s anonymity, but it was not much of a shield.

It did not take much investigating to follow that data trail to Thelma Arnold, a 62-year-old widow who lives in Lilburn, Ga.
