of ice-cream this and ice-cream that

After one week of having ice-cream, now Lancerlad is everything ice-cream. Ice-cream this, ice-cream that.

After brushing his teeth last night, he insisted to have ice-cream. After a few times of saying no, Lancerlady and I kena bullied by Lancerlad gave in.

Another 3/4 tub of chocolate ice-cream left in the refrigerator.

of not so geeky

The Poser Geek
You answered 54% of the questions as a geek truly would.

As a poser geek, you're trying too damned hard. There's a strong
possibility that you think you're a geek because you own your own
computer, however you're truly missing the bigger picture. You
aspirations of being a geek mainly come from your friends, who are
probably slightly cooler.

Get rid of those thick black-rimmed glasses. Being a geek isn't about style, it's about substance!

So what's this all mean? It means you're probably a pretty cool
person. You've probably got social graces and are well liked by many
people. While not a complete conformist, you do prefer to follow along
with popular culture. True geeks probably laugh at you behind your
back.

In a nutshell, you answered most question how you thought a geek
WOULD answer, but your misconceptions deceived you. Truth is, 60% of
people are geekier than you.

of still under quarantine

Thank you all for all your well wishes. lancerlad and lancerkid are better now. The rate they are recovering is faster than the previous ones.

lancerlad's ulcers have cleared and he is almost back to his usual self. At least he cried once last night.

lancerkid's rashes are gone and his appetite is better.

Yes, HFMD is indeed a bitch. But lucky thing there is something called ice-cream to pamper the kids. Phew!

of hfmd again

Hand-Foot-Mouth disease again. Pui!

This time lancerkid. lancerlady and I thinks that he got it from lancerlad who got it from unknown source. We heard over the radio yesterday that a school was quarantined because there were cases of HFMD.

We suspected lancerlad had mild HFMD. On Monday, we brought him to see the doctor because of fever and he complained he was in pain. He kept pointing to his mouth but we could not spot anything wrong. The doctor found 2 ulcers at the back of his throat. He said that it could be due to some virus thingy and dismissed that it was HFMD because there were no spots on his hands and feet.

lancerkid, on the other hand, started to have fever yesterday and today his legs had red spots all over. He woke up a few times last night. Today he did not have appetite, refused to eat. Poor thing!

lancerlad also kept waking up over the past few nights because of the ulcers. Woke up and cried.

lancerlady and I damn very Orh Bak Kak already. Yesterday when I dropped lancerlady off at work, she said 'good night' instead of the usual peck on the cheek and 'goodbye'. After experiencing 3 nights of interrupted sleep, brain switched off already.

Too tired to blog. But still can blog this. My blain also going to switch off and it's only 9pm.

of one nut loose

So far I had only mentioned about my Granduncle once in this blog. This post will be the second.

Every morning, my Granduncle will accompany us downstairs to the car and then he will say goodbye to lancerlad. Usually he will be the last one to leave the house so he will be the one to lock the door.

Today he did something which made me burst into laughter. Whilst in the lift, upon reaching the ground floor, he shouted "Alamak!". He kept shaking his head and gave a loud "Cheh!". Then he showed me the padlock in his hand. The familiar Abloy padlock that secures our gate. Not only had he forgotten to lock the gate, he took the padlock down 2 flights of stairs, along a stretch of corridor, into the lift and down 10 floors. He laughed, I laughed and the people in the lift also laughed.

Our 84-year old Granduncle is becoming senile. Like what he always says, "One nut loose!" (usually accompanied with his finger pointing to his head)

of all tied up

I find work is like a circus. Not only my colleagues and I are bunch of clowns, we are also trained forced to juggle between projects.

I bumped into the boss of Project A along the corridor.
Boss of Project A: "You haven't do? Which project more important? Project A or Project B?"

Then I bumped into the boss of Project B in the toilet.
Boss of Project B: "What? You're doing Project A? Project A more important is it?"

While walking back to my cubicle, I saw Boss of Project C. He did not see me but I detoured.

Too many bosses spoils my soup. I am using my left-hand to do Project A and my right-hand to do Project B. Project C use what huh?

By the way, I am using my feet to type this post.

OK, back to the life in the circus.

of pronunciation

111 days ago (according to Technorati's statistics), the Calm One did a post on the pronounciation of words.

Sgforums.com also has a thread on this topic which I find equally interesting. Here are some words extracted from it.

"Vase", which should rhyme with 'Base', is very commonly pronounced here as 'V-Arse'

"Economic" should be "Air-conomic" but often pronounced "Ee-conomic", because "Economy" is pronounced as "Ee-conomy"

"Flour" should be pronounced as "Fl-Our" but we often pronounce it as "Fl-ah"

"subtle" - the B is silent.. pronounced "suttle"

"often" - the T is silent.. pronounced "offen"

Boat Quay and Clarke Quay was popular, they were both local delicacies, 'Boat Kueh' and 'Clarke Kueh'

"Singapore"... she mispronounced it as "Seng-ka-pore"

of no car

We just came back from the SPH Carnival.

Today we tasted the feeling of not having a car. We walked and walked.

There was a massive jam. Partly because there was the usual weekend crowd at East Coast Parkway. Also partly because of the SPH Carnival. And also partly because there was an accident involving a few cars.

So we had to park our car at a carpark near Fort Road. Then lancerlady and I made our way to the event (which was near the Macdonald's) on foot, with lancerlad (being the Young and Mighty Prince) sitting comfortably in the stroller.

After the event, we walked to Parkway Parade to have our lunch. And after lunch we took a very very slow walk back to our car.

And did we win the Mazda6? Definitely not, we did not even submit contest form. Because we got there late and submission of contest forms had already closed. On top of that, there was human jam. I think 10 million people were at the event.

But it was good fun. You could see people carrying newspaper, running like crazy. Someone was also singing the riddle as we made our slow walk to the event.

So this was the day we sort of did not have a car and did not win a car. Good experience of feeling something uniquely Singaporean. Kiasu!

We seldom join contests. Don't know why but we had the sudden urge to participate in this. You should see the mess we created. We were 2 crazy people, searching through 2 weeks of newspapers. But it was good fun. lancerlad also took out his toy scissors and "cut! cut! cut!".

lancerlady just jumped when she read about the NKF-SPH article.

When lancerlady applied for her job, she was asked to donate a small fraction of her pay every month. All out of freewill. Well she agreed and I think most of us would also oblige. During the years, she's been asked to consider increasing the amount.

Likewise when I applied for my job, I was also asked to donate to another organisation. Since it was my first job, I agreed. I think I agreed mainly because I was too happy in getting the job. What's a small contribution compared to the amount I'm getting? Fortunately, I was not asked to increase my donation.

I'm always not in favour of the way it conducts it's donation drive, but I think we should focus on its cause and let them fight in court.

of zombie arcade game

[via Hendri]

Watch this.

In this video Derren Brown, a hypnotist, sets up an arcade game. A guy starts playing it and gets hypnotised, then was taken to a real world version of the game.

I am not going to play arcade games anymore.

Extracted from derren-brown.co.uk:
Derren has, as expected, received some complaints over the 'Arcade Game' item, amongst the overwhelmingly positive response it provoked...Derren is well aware of the dangers and issues which have been brought up...if he had felt the guy was going to be in any danger he would not have persevered.

of spa etiquette

[via Postmaster-General]

Balik Kampung: The Neighbourhood Spa, which provides spa treatment.

I was reading their Kampung Etiquette which lists some 'rules' that guest should observe. Some are amusing.
- Allow the therapist to perform a service as reserved and timed.
- Enjoy, benefit and allow others to "do for you".
- Know that you are in a professional spa therapy operations and do not expect anything other than therapeutic or spa services.
