of the microsoft windows genuine advantage servers are down

Validation issues - Microsoft is having WGA server problems: The Microsoft Windows Genuine servers (which every XP and Vista install phones home to) all failed yesterday and word from the Microsoft Technical Support is that the server may be down for a few days.

What this means, according to boing boing reader David McBride, is that every Windows XP or Windows Vista installation will be marked as counterfeit when it tries to check in.

I'm sure the Microsoft technical support team will be under fire by their management (Bill Gates would have lectured them by now) but I trust that they will fix the problem in no time.

Update: The problem has since been fixed. Click here for more details.
