800-word Harry Potter prequel to be auctioned: JK Rowling is writing a 800-word prequel to the seven-book Harry Potter series. The prequel will be not be published but auctioned off. Proceeds will be donated to charity. Waterstone's is holding the "What's Your Story?" auction and it has sent 13 A5-sized papers to 13 authors and illustrators, including the boy wizard's creator J.K. Rowling, Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing, novelist Margaret Atwood and playwright Tom Stoppard.

Waterstones' press release says,
On Tuesday, June 10, 2008, a unique storycard hand-written and signed by JK Rowling will be sold in a charity auction, revealing a never-before-seen prequel to the Harry Potter series. JK Rowling is just one of thirteen internationally renowned authors who have donated an original, highly-collectable storycard to the What’s Your Story? auction, which will be held at Waterstone’s flagship store on Piccadilly in London, with the assistance of Sotheby’s. All proceeds will be donated to English PEN and Dyslexia Action.
