I was given a chance to catch "A Christmas Carol", the movie adaptation of Charles Dickens' book of the same title.
The story is about the miserable Ebenezer Scrooge who does not believe in Christmas and he gets visited by three Christmas spirits who shows him the spirit of Christmas. This Disney movie stars Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman, Bob Hoskins, Colin Firth and more.
Most of the casts were required to take on different roles. For example, Jim Carrey takes on four different roles, playing Ebenezer Scrooge and each of the three Ghosts of Christmas.
Another version of "A Christmas Carol", you may ask?
Well no, this is not just another version of A Christmas Carol. Director Robert Zemeckis has brought Charles Dickens' characters to life in the animation way. Like what he did in Polar Express, Zemeckis had the casts act out their parts and their movements were then digitized and animated.
In this movie, the CGI animation was almost life-like and visually good. The effects were also creative, like the scene where Scrooge was being shot up into the sky. So when there are visual effects during the movie, expect something magical.
Story wise, little has deviated from Charles Dickens' classic novel, except for a touch of Zemeckis here and there.
The casts also acted their roles well. With Jim Carrey, one would expect some funny injects.
The movie will make a good holiday movie that is entertaining for adults and Zemeckis has done a good job, taking movie filming to a whole new level.
Thank you to Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Singapore and Nuffnang for the movie.
One another note: A game has also been released on Facebook called Scrooge 'O' Meter. All you have to do generate a gift (let the application generate one, you just click and shake leg) then send it to a recipient. Once the gift is accepted, you gain points. If the gift is rejected, you lose points (ah beh then).
The challenge is to 'unscrooge' yourself during this Christmas season. How do you do this? Easy, just send gifts to your family and friends. You'll gain and lose points along the way. Keep on giving and over time, your status will change for the better.
But beware, friends with higher points than you will be more reluctant to accept gifts!
Be sure to invite all your family and friends as you'll gain extra points for each new recruit - Good luck!!!
