The first human case of bird flu in seven years has been diagnosed in Hong Kong, health officials said Thursday, urging the public to take precautions. A 59-year-old woman was hospitalized in serious condition after a trip to mainland China, the Hong Kong Department of Health said.

Her illness was diagnosed as influenza A (H5), a variant of bird flu. It was unclear where she had contracted the disease. She did not have any contact with live poultry and did not visit farms while in China, Hong Kong health officials said. Her 60-year-old husband developed possible symptoms of bird flu, but has recovered.

Hong Kong health officials have stepped up surveillance by testing patients with severe pneumonia for bird flu. They also have launched a hotline to answer questions from the public, and are working with health officials in mainland China to monitor any occurrences.

A close friend of the couple confirmed that the long-haired beauty photographed shopping with Wu, 31, on Monday is a Singaporean named Arissa Cheo.

The pair first dated six years ago but split after a one-year relationship. She had also appeared in his music video "My Kingdom".

Cheo, who is four years his junior, is said to be from a wealthy family in Singapore and has two younger brothers studying in California.

The couple reportedly got back together four years ago shortly after the former F4 member split with Taiwan singer-actress Vivian Hsu.

However, they ended the relationship again due to long distance as Cheo was studying in America and Wu was involved in a concert in Asia.

She was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2005.

Ti, whose credits included A Big Mess, Beauty and the 7 Beasts, One Day at a Time and Dark Rendezvous, caused a sensation in Hong Kong when she appeared nude in The Warlord in 1972.

Ti had, in an interview two years ago, admitted that she used to gather intelli­gence for the Communist Party of China in the 60s.

The 18-year-old was crowned by another Venezuelan, Dayana Mendoza, Miss Universe 2008, marking the first time that two contestants from the same country have won the title in consecutive years.

As Miss Universe, Fernandez will have the use of a New York City apartment for the year of her reign, and will receive living expenses. Other prizes include a two-year scholarship at the New York Film Academy; a vacation for two in the Bahamas; and a wardrobe, including evening wear, swimsuits and jewelry.

The competition involves swimsuit, evening gown and interview phases, which a 12-member panel judged.

SJM Holdings Ltd., Ho’s casino operator, fell 4.6 percent to HK$3.15 at closing. SJM, which operates casinos and hotels in Macau, has almost doubled this year.

The new variant is direct descendent of the Brisbane strain which has been the prevalent circulating strain of H3N2 in the past year in Hong Kong, CHP Controller Dr Thomas Tsang said.

However, it has some genetic changes distinguishing it from the old Brisbane strain. Overseas health authorities, including those in Canada, Britain and Australia, have also found the new variant. There is no evidence showing that the H3 variant circulating in Hong Kong is more severe and resistant to oseltamivir (Tamiflu).

An Australian man has been arrested in Hong Kong after the driver of a taxi he was travelling in died following a crash, police said today.

The man, who was named by the Sunday Morning Post as 22-year-old Kelsey Michael Mudd, was held after the fatal crash early on Saturday morning, police said in a statement.

The Post, citing police sources, said there had been a dispute between the driver and Mudd before the incident in Hong Kong's Central district at 3:30 am.

The car smashed into the central railings and then hit three taxis travelling in the opposite direction, the police statement said.

The passenger then moved into the driver's seat and drove off on the wrong side of the road, before hitting another taxi, the statement added.

A shocking video has surfaced on the internet purportedly showing a Hong Kong teenager performing oral sex and other services on a double-decker bus for HK$200 to raise money to buy herself a Gucci handbag. The six-minute video shows a 17-year-old girl with a man on the upper deck of a moving bus with scenes of Hong Kong Island in the background. It is suspected the video was made by girls engaged in "compensated dating." It is unclear who shot the video.

A caption attached with the video, in English, reads: "Kikimushr00m do things on bus." The film starts with a girl and a man with his jeans zipped open. At least three other passengers were seated at the front of the bus. A male voice describes the act and claims you can get the girl's services "for a price." He also says the teenager's clients do not need to use a condom. A girl's voice then describes "the quiet and peaceful surroundings outside the bus." Near the end of the video, a clip of a young Chinese girl's face appears.

Kiki has since removed her Xanga site.

A Hong Kong primary school teacher appeared in court on Friday over allegations that he had sex with a pupil 280 times over a two-year period and persuaded her to have an illegal abortion.

Chu Chi-wah, 38, met the girl, now 17, while teaching her maths and physical education from primary year three to six at the Catholic school she attended.

He began having sex with her in 2004. At the time she was 12 and had moved to a secondary school but was going to Chu's home daily for private tuition, a court report in the Hong Kong Standard newspaper said Friday.

Chu is on trial charged with 12 counts of having sex with a child between January 2004 and June 2006, eight when she was aged under 13. He is also charged with conspiring to cause an illegal abortion.
