THE first of seven ex-Citibank employees who took clients' information before leaving to join rival UBS was fined a total of $173,000 on Thursday. Low Siok Liang, 34, now unemployed, pleaded guilty to 20 charges of abetting her assistant Valarie Lim Ming Huey to extract customer data from Citibank's computer database; one each of abetting another colleague, Wendy Quek Lien Lien, to do the same, and conspiring with Lim to destroy documents. Low, who faces a total of 264 charges, was the top relationship manager in Citigold, a platform in Citibank where relationship managers manage customers with $200,000 investable assets or more. She quit in April 2006 to join UBS, together with her service relationship manager Lim, 30.In the news report, it was mentioned that Low Siok Liang is better known as Carel.
Low, better known as Carel, also admitted to having conspired with Lim to destroy documents which were to be delivered to Citibank after it served writs of summons on several ex-employees for breach of contract.Click here to read the report on Low Siok Liang.
