Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air cancel flights because of computer problems

Alaska Airlines and its Horizon Air affiliate are canceling dozens of flights today because their computer system failed.

Seattle-based Alaska Airlines flies to cities in the U.S., focusing on the West Coast, and to Canada and Mexico.

Company spokesman Paul McElroy says the two airlines canceled 60 flights Saturday morning, six hours after the outage started. The airline will rebook passengers without a fee. It says customers should call the airline to check on their flight before going to the airport. McElroy says the airline has been able to operate about 20 flights during the day. He says the cause of the computer problem isn't known but technicians are working on it.

"Acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone's daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others," she said.

Palin's husband, Todd, echoed her sentiments, telling FOXNews.com, "Any ‘jokes’ about raping my 14-year-old are despicable. Alaskans know it, and I believe the rest of the world knows it, too."

Bristol Palin, 18, gave birth to Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston on Saturday, People magazine reported online. He weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces. Colleen Jones, the sister of Bristol's grandmother, told the magazine that the baby is fine and Bristol is doing well...The father is Levi Johnston, a former hockey player at Alaska's Wasilla High School.

With no time to unlock the door of his vehicle and climb inside, he tried to duck out of sight. After a few laps of the car the bear almost caught up, managing to land a few heavy swipes on his prey. The man eventually managed to take refuge in a neighbouring truck which was unlocked. His back and head were covered in more than 100 deep scratches where the massive claws had managed to rip through his thick winter clothes and padded coat.

Snowzilla, the giant Alaskan snowman who had become a famous annual attraction in Anchorage is no more, after city officials decided to ban his building this year.

Snowzilla started in 2005 when Anchorage local Billy Powers decided he wanted to build something special for Christmas. The giant snowman, originally 16 feet (5m) tall but slightly bigger in following years gained national, then international attention, bringing camera crews from as far away as Japan and Russia to film Snowzilla in the wild.

The Anchorage Daily News reported Friday that Sherry L. Johnston, 42, was arrested by Alaska State Troopers at her Wasilla home and charged with six felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance. The arrest was the result of an "undercover narcotics investigation," according to police. Few details were available. Johnston was released on $5,000 bond, according to the paper.

Some people build swimming pools in their back yards. But outdoor pools in Alaska just won't work. Since this particular family lives on the outskirts of Anchorage, they decided to build a sturdy, colorful playground for their 3 and 4 year old sons, with smooth-stone gravel all around it to avoid knee scrapes and other injuries.

They finished building it on Saturday evening, and the following morning, as mom was about to wake up the boys and have them go out to play in their new play center, this is what she saw from the upstairs window
