The "Dark Knight" star was in a one-car crash about 11:30 p.m., according to celebrity Web site TMZ.
The accident happened in the vicinity of Batesville, Miss. According to Memphis' WMC-TV, Freeman's 1997 Nissan Maxima went off the edge of Mississippi Highway 32 and flipped several times before coming to a rest. The car reportedly belonged to Freeman's passenger, Demaris Meyer, who is a friend of the actor's wife.
Freeman, 71, and Meyer were extracted from the car using the Jaws of Life.
